I need the ability to play multiple MIDI instruments at once for a project I am working on (such as using a computer keyboard, regular MIDI keyboard, Rock Band guitar, etc recording at the same time). I'm pretty positive GB can do this, but I don't have enough MIDI experience to know. Although if GarageBand isn't able to, is there another program I could use?

Xone 1D midi message bug
**I got two NI Kontrol X1 as a replacement to this, so I don't know what A&H have done to alleviate the problem. Hopefully someone else has gotten more feedback** My Allen & Heath Xone 1D has only one issue : sometimes the last midi message from an endless encoder will be sent later when I'm moving another control. For me, in Traktor 3 this can mean : *Set loop size with one pot... *Tweak the jog wheel to pitch bend... OOPS, my loop shrinked! or the other way around.

I just downloaded the Cubase SX software on my laptop and I'm trying to hook up my eMedia keyboard to the program.
The keyboard has a MIDI output (which I don't have the cord for) and a USB outlet. I've hooked up the USB to the computer and the computer makes a little 'ding' sound, acknowledging that it has been plugged in, but nothing else happens.
Any ideas?

I have Pro Tools LE 8.0 installed on my macbook for a good while now, and recently, I got an alert saying to update it at through Digidesign to get the newer 8.0.1 or whatever. So I go there and click on the download link, and everything downloads. Then once I click to actually launch the Pro Tools Updater Install, it tells me almost right away that "my system does not have a valid Pro Tools LE 8.0

I just ordered a MacBook Pro, and I would love to be able to record my electric guitar through GarageBand. My amp doesn't have an out plugin, so it needs to be something that doesn't require an amp. Also, I'm planning on upgrading to Logic Express when I get the money, so I'd prefer something that works good on that too.
It doesn't have to be something great, just so I can record with decent quality, and so I can play

KAOSS THRU 1000.mpg
A fun experiment with the kp3 and the kaossilator midi maped in to the mpc 1000. setup: midi clock and note changes out of mpc midi out 1, into midi thru box out to kp3 and kaossilator.... then midi out of kaossilator back into the mpc in #1 and mapped as input thru. result: when pgm setup as midi signal the kaossilator acts as a master midi input to the kp3. samples made on the kaoss pads are being triggerd from the mpc.

My Roland HD-1 Drums + MadCatz Midi Pro Adapter for Rock Band 3 (PS3)
My point is not to show off (I'm not that good). Proof of concept to get my Roland HD-1 connected to Rock Band 3 (PS3) using MadCatz Midi Pro Adapter. While it works 'okish' most of the time, USB isn't really the best

Answer by TorbjornA midi controller only sends midi messages. In other words, it is designed to control gear and software which read midi messages - it receives or sends no audio information.
A mixer on the other hand is primarily meant to receive, mix

I am an audio engineer/producer student so I am eligible for the Pro Tools 9 academic version. However, I just wanted to know what limitations, if any, there are when it comes to the academic version.
For instance, I have heard that with many academic versions of other programs, you are not allowed to make profit off of any work created within them. If so, you could face being sued or other legal actions being taken
