difference between a midi controller and a mixer?

Question by Luke Beirne: difference between a midi controller and a mixer?
if they both have crossfaders, volume adjusters etc what is the difference?
I'd be using mp3's so turntables dont matter.

Answer by TorbjornA midi controller only sends midi messages. In other words, it is designed to control gear and software which read midi messages - it receives or sends no audio information.
