midi keyboard?

im going to bye a new pc for producing music. im gonna use reason4 and sonar 7 for music. what i want to know is

1 whether it is the ultimate necessety for any hardcore musician to have a midi keyboard or i can go without it doing great job easily ?

2 what is the difference in a midi keyboard , controller , sontrol surface (please brief me)

3 which one of the above three is best by functions , controls ,ease etc?
